I have decided to do a few things I've let slide, whether it's because I didn't care or because it wasn't a big issue. With the distinct possibility of being here alone until the new owner does something, I realize that I have to do some "maintenance" to bring things up to where it either makes it easier for me to live or causes fewer problems.
- I bought black, white and orange spray paints, some stencils and a steel yardstick. First thing is to paint the address number additionally on the curb and/or on the driveway.
- When the town put a curb and an actual driveway in front of the house, the driveway is at a very steep angle. The lift ramp used to pick up my wheelchair must either land in the street or on the curb. If it lands on the driveway, the slope is so steep that the mechanical "foot" at the bottom of the ramp can't engage with the ground, which means the front plate on the ramp will not open. I will paint a few marks in white on the street indicating how far it is from the curb. When metro access comes out, I'll find out where the vehicle is that its ramp does open. Then I'll go out and paint all the invalid numbers over with black paint, then paint in a note in orange paint indicating for metro access where to pull the vehicle so that it works every time.
- I have some driveway flags, they are orange sticks with white reflective tape (with one that's yellow to make a difference), I'm putting them near the mailbox so that when someone pulls into the driveway they can see to avoid it.
- I have blue and red reflectors, these will go on the post portion of the box so it can be noticed. Also so that I can refer to the place by what will be a blue reflector on the side of the mailbox.
