Well, after having to wait a week for Comcast to install Internet at my new room, at the moment it seems to be working more-or-less partially okay. I am somewhat having some problems in some cases in which when I try to go to a particular page or sometimes do some things I end up at a Comcast lockdown page you get when it doesn't recognize you as a customer and wants you to sign up or sign on or something. It is wierd in that I would go to the main page of this blog as http://paul-robinson.us but if I tried http://www.paul-robinson.us I'd go to Comcast's lockdown.
If this is continuing or there's some other problem, maybe that's why the cable tv guide lookup doesn't work, maybe it's getting Comcast's page instead of whatever Windows Media Center expects to get for program listings. Maybe I need to reboot my new computer so that it will connect properly, I don't know.
I'll have more to say later after I see what's happening and maybe burn some minutes on my cell phone calling Comcast again to find out what's going on.
Update: It's not consistent. I am using a wireless router (in wired mode) to hook up the two computers, and in some cases, on one machine an address is acceptable, but the identical address on the other machine gives Comcast's lockdown page.
