Well, I have a new place to live

After going through a number of issues related to finding a place - for reasons I am not going to explain right now, though I might in the future - I am moving back to Maryland, to a location in Prince George's County - again - roughly about 6 blocks outside the District of Columbia. So we'll see what happens. Thursday will be the last "full" day I live in the Commonwealth of Virginia; Friday, May 30, I will be moving to my new place.

I will be spending Thursday checking everything to make sure everything is packed, and Thursday night I disconnect all my computers and equipment; I'll live without TV for one night, I didn't have it for several months when I got here. Also, I won't have Internet immediately where I'm moving; either I'll have to arrange to have it set up through Comcast - the same company that provides the really lousy service I get here - or I'll get DSL again. The place I'm moving includes cable as part of the rent; so I'll find out about getting Cable Internet, even if I have to pay the entire $36 a month personally. (Comcast charges $33 a month for Internet or telephone, plus $3 for the adapter. You only pay for the adapter once, whether you get one or both, but they are kind of disingenuous, they claim it's $33 a month, while not mentioning their adapter costs $3 a month extra).

Basically, I guess Wednesday will be "kill day" in which I contact all important organizations and agencies that need to know I'm moving. As well as contact appropriate authorities in Maryland to the extent necessary.

No, this doesn't mean I have to alert my new parole officer, it means things like either changing my corporation over to become a Maryland one, or use my sister's old address and making my Virginia corporation authorized to do business in Maryland instead. I'll see what the costs are; since it's not really doing any business in Maryland I might not register it there, especially if I have to pay a business license fee. (In Arlington county the license is free for businesses having less than $10,000 a year in business; in Loudoun County it's free for home-based businesses doing less than $4,000.)

I also have to decide if I want to get a notary commission in Maryland, although chances are I wouldn't use it (again for reasons I'm not going to explain now.) As apparently you have to have an additional credential to do notary signings in Maryland, it might not be worth it. But I'll think about it.

[Update: 8/27/2008]The reason I didn't want to explain why I probably wouldn't use it was because of my disability, but since I already sent in the fee to apply, I guess I will, as soon as I find another person to use as a reference. The application had two people I knew who said it was okay to list them as references, but my State Senator wants two letters of recommendation, so I had to find people whom would accept a slightly larger inconvenience of sending written letters, as opposed to being willing to be called on the phone.

Welcome to My blog! This is where I store my thoughts so that I can come back to them at some point in the future. This allows me a place like a journal to keep what I'm thinking about. But anyone else is welcome to visit; I make this place public so that other people can hear what I'm thinking.

This is where I make comments on any subject I find of interest. My political comments are in the Politics section, and technical items are in the Computers section. Note, if you want to make a comment, e-mail it to me at paul@paul-robinson.us. I am sorry that I had to disable comments, but after I had deleted the 300th worthless piece of spam comment on this blog and receiving exactly zero valid comments, I decided to stop allowing spammers to excrement all over me and my blog. If you have *anything* at all to say, send it to me in e-mail; if it is even the slightest bit relevant - even if I don't agree with it, I will post it. (As soon as I find a way to stop spammers from posting junk I'll allow direct comments.) Note that if you are a visitor and post a comment, it defaults to "draft" meaning I have to approve it before it is visible, so if you're posting spam, don't bother, nobody will see it.
